Datto at a glance

2007	Datto was founded by Austin McChord after creating a backup device in his parent’s basement in Connecticut. A LEGO brick was used to complete the first iteration of the product.
2011	Datto's cloud surpasses 2PB of securely protected data.
2012	Hurricane Sandy in the U.S. sets the company on the path to becoming a leader in the backup and disaster recovery space after employees brave the storm and ensure MSP customer data is protected. Datto surpasses 1,000 MSP partners and 100 employees. Datto adds UK and Australia offices.
2013	Datto releases ALTO; hosts its first annual DattoCon partner conference with approximately 200 MSP attendees.
2014	Datto acquires Boston-based Backupify, a cloud-to-cloud backup leader, and adds protection of SaaS applications to its product portfolio.
2016	Datto releases SIRIS 3 x1 as the world’s first all-flash BCDR product; launches ransomware detection at DattoCon London.
2017	Tim Weller joins Datto as Chief Financial Officer. Datto is acquired by private equity firm Vista Equity Partners and merges with Autotask, adding PSA,RMM, Datto Workplace, and Datto File Protection to Datto’s MSP product portfolio. Datto acquires Portland-based Open Mesh (now Datto Networking) to deliver network continuity. It also expands, adding Portland and Amsterdam offices to the company and surpasses 10,000 partners.
2019	Tim Weller is appointed CEO of Datto in January. DattoCon and DattoCon EMEA conferences grow to over 2,700 MSP attendees worldwide.
2020	Datto surpasses 17,000 MSP partners and 1,600 employees. Datto acquires Australian company Gluh, a real-time procurement platform for MSPs. Datto IPO. Shares begin trading on The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the symbol “MSP.”
2021	Datto acquires BitDam, Israel-based cyber threat detection company, and introduces security product Datto SaaS Defense to its portfolio. Datto releases Datto Continuity for Microsoft Azure (DCMA), the world's first comprehensive BCDR solution built for MSPs to protect their clients’ data in the public cloud.
2022	Datto acquires Infocyte, Texas-based cyber threat detection and response company. Kaseya acquires Datto, promising to boost innovation and lower prices for MSPs.
