Microsoft Defender for Business

Microsoft Defender for Business is an endpoint security solution built to bring enterprise-grade security to small and medium businesses (SMBs). Microsoft Defender for Business goes beyond traditional antivirus technology and delivers threat and vulnerability management, attack surface reduction, next-generation protection, endpoint detection and response, and automated investigation and remediation capabilities in a single solution. Microsoft Defender for Business is now generally available within Microsoft 365 Business Premium and as a standalone solution. Datto RMM provides an integration that will also work with Microsoft Defender for Endpoint Plan 1 and Plan 2.

Datto RMM’s integration with Defender for Business enables Managed Service Providers (MSPs) to provide powerful and easy-to-use security solutions to their SMB clients, by delivering these capabilities:

  • Microsoft Defender for Business events such as detection of malware, controlled folder access, or potentially unwanted programs will be visible in the Datto RMM event log. These RMM alerts can also be configured to create a ticket in the MSP’s supported PSA tool or send email notifications to the appropriate teams. For Datto RMM partners using Autotask PSA, please refer to this Knowledge Base article to set up email notifications for Defender for Business events and convert them into PSA tickets.
  • Datto RMM’s integration will verify that the sensor used to report behavioral data back to the Microsoft Defender for Business service is deployed correctly and running.
  • The integration also checks for successful onboarding, which helps MSPs confirm that Microsoft Defender for Business is operational.

Datto RMM users can deploy the integration by selecting the “Application: Windows Defender for Endpoint” policy from the Best Practices section of the RMM portal.
